Treasured Places: 100 years of RCAHMS
RCAHMS keystone centenary exhibition Treasured Places: 100 Years of RCAHMS will be on display at the City Art Centre, Edinburgh from 25 October 2008 until 18 January 2009. Reflecting and connecting the lives of the people of Scotland from prehistory to the present day, the exhibition celebrates the richness and variety of Scotland’s built heritage as seen through the work of RCAHMS over the last 100 years.
Items on display offer a glimpse into the millions of items in RCAHMS collections. Over 200 items are exhibited, dating from the late 1700s to the present day, and in a rich variety of media. As well as photographs, drawings and paintings, there are models, books and objects in display cases. Much of the material is the product of RCAHMS own surveyors and photographers working across Scotland.
The exhibition combines several different sections, covering themes of Places We Live, Places We Work and Places We Gather. A timeline charts key events in RCAHMS history from 1908 to today, whilst the cinema area presents a film telling the organisation’s story. The Top Ten Treasured Places as chosen by the public in the online vote are also represented.
