Tom Parnell, RCAHMS staff

Completed by the famous Scottish engineer Thomas Telford in 1814, Craigellachie was revolutionary for the time with a single-span of 45.7 metres (150 feet). Now the oldest surviving cast-iron bridge in Scotland, it carried road traffic for over 150 years until it was by-passed in 1972. It continues to carry pedestrians and cyclists. RCAHMS carried out a measured survey of the bridge in the 1980s, and the drawings produced bring to life the ingenuity of Telford's design, whilst at the same time giving us accurate information on how the structure works.2007 is the 250th anniversary of the birth of Thomas Telford, and it is appropriate that this dramatic bridge formed a key part of the celebrations in Moray.

Why is there no photograph of the bridge. While some people will appreciate the workmanship in the drawing I believe that a photograph of the actual bridge for those who have never seen it might be helpful.
