I was very lucky to have the chance to study at Glasgow School of Art. When I arrived I did not know what great architecture was, but by the end of my four years I knew! Its influence on me was literally life changing. I had gone there to study sculpture but came away wanting to construct much larger objects- buildings. It took me another ten years but I eventually qualified as an architect and my memories of this marvellous building will always remain clear. I remember running up the stone steps under the specially designed clock over the entrance into the reception hall. It was a dark space with glittering mosaic portraits of past artists greeting me as I climbed the stairs wrapped around the porter's office into the large flood-lit space of the museum where we hung our temporary exhibitions beneath its elegantly crafted wooden roof structure. I remember the smaller details of the building from the delicately coloured stained glass panels in the doors to the elegant and practical easels in the studios. I remember the specially designed window seats where I used to sit with my friends and discuss our days and nights. I have to stop there as my memories are endless! I don't know any other building with so much to offer.

As the last remaining CRM building still being used for the purpose it was designed, The Mackintosh Building needs to stay a place for the inspiration and making of art.

The sight of the bourdon building (next door) still fills me with dread but the school of art always lifted my spirits. Is it coincidence that the architecture students have the best view of one of the most beautiful buildings in Scotland while working in such a hole. It is a rose among some very large thorns. I wish the image chosen to represent it showed more of the variety of subtleties that make it so remarkable.

As President of the S.R.C.between1964-1965 we held our meetings in the MacIntosh Room every Friday Not only did I get to converse with other students with social consciences as well as artistic ability but we did this in surroundings and at table and chairs that no one else in Scotland could possibly envisage What an inspiration As I continue my political energies elsewhere these days I never forget those days where it all began

A living breathing building in which I studied and quickly came to life. Well ahead of its time, the humanity of the interior spaces and fixtures enhanced my 'emergence' and that period of time is one of the most treasured experiences of my life. I also remember wonderful student friends, many still within my ken, I first met in CRM's masterpiece.

My years at the GSA still resonate with some of the most influential moments of my life. The architecture was a mystery at the time, I 'discovered' it later with the benefit of broader experience of the built environment. Yet it had a profound effect in every aspect of my life. Most of all, it shaped my future in the practice of interior design and stimulated a fascination for all things 'designed' in our world.

I was, like some others who have posted comments below, fortunate enough to study at the Glasgow Shool of Art. For me this was during the late 1970's. Glasgow during this period was a vibrant place to live, where the visual and performing arts seemed to me at leaste to be centered around this magnificent piece of architecture by C R M.

Located in the Newbery Tower allowed me the opportunity to gaze upon the CRM building with admiration and delight. This great piece of 20th Century architecture opened my eyes to the possibilties of pushing the bounderies of the accepted 'norms' of not only architecture but the visual arts in gerneral. Pushing bouderies has been my goal with for my own creative endevours for the past 30 years. This building is truely inspirational and a treasured place, not only in its architectural form but also the details of furniture and fixtures throughout the building that provided endless inspiration for me as a student and a professional design practioner.

And don't forget CRM's other buildings elsewhere in Glasgow and Scotland. Great!
